Hello and Welcome!
My name is Geraldo Gonzalez, also known as “The King of Transit.” I am first and foremost a transit artist. I began working as an artist in the early 2000s. I first started taking photos for a homework assignment in middle school, which inspired me to start taking photographs of local transit systems. Public transit has always been an interest of mine. I regularly took the bus as a teenager going to and from school, then went out and got to know other transit routes within the greater Delaware valley, like SEPTA, PATCO, AMTRAK, MTA, NJT, and DTC. My passion for public transportation has led me to make thousands of artworks to encourage people to use and find the beauty in these local transportation systems. I am a self-taught multimedia artist, working in colored pencil, acrylic paint, oil paint, watercolor, photography, video and sculpture. My process is to project images that I take and find online and translate them into my artwork through tracing, then going back and adding color. Issues surrounding transportation like road rage and gas inflation have inspired me to spread my message about public transportation. Outside of transit-related art, I also create self portraits that express my identity and feelings. My Puerto Rican culture influences my art, in my self portraits and expressive use of color. Mi nombre es Geraldo González, también conocido como “El Rey del Tránsito”. Soy ante todo un artista del tránsito. Comencé a trabajar como artista a principios de los años 2000. Comencé a tomar fotografías por primera vez para una tarea en la escuela secundaria, lo que me inspiró a comenzar a tomar fotografías de los sistemas de transporte locales. El transporte público siempre ha sido un interés para mí. Cuando era adolescente tomaba el autobús con regularidad para ir y volver de la escuela, luego salí y conocí otras rutas de transporte dentro del gran valle de Delaware, como SEPTA, PATCO, AMTRAK, MTA, NJT y DTC. Mi pasión por el transporte público me ha llevado a realizar miles de obras de arte para alentar a las personas a usar y encontrar la belleza de estos sistemas de transporte locales. Soy un artista multimedia autodidacta, trabajo con lápiz de color, pintura acrílica, pintura al óleo, acuarela, fotografía, video y escultura. Mi proceso consiste en proyectar imágenes que tomo y encuentro en línea y traducirlas en mi obra de arte mediante el calco, luego retrocedo y agrego color. Los problemas relacionados con el transporte, como la furia al volante y la inflación de la gasolina, me han inspirado a difundir mi mensaje sobre el transporte público. Aparte del arte relacionado con el tránsito, también creo autorretratos que expresan mi identidad y mis sentimientos.
